“Renaissance” Review

Concluding Thoughts

And thus, the last note plays, and we have made it to the completion of this album. There’s a reason it’s so ravenously enjoyed by so many (though, that does come with the territory of any Beyoncé release), as it carefully synthesizes so many forms and genres of dance music within the sprawling world that is this album. It reminds older people of being young, educates younger people on the styles of music that came before them, all while being its own synergistic forward-thinking piece of art that is also a new thing entirely. For a pop artist of Beyoncé’s caliber to be so willing to challenge the mold of what makes a hit song or album,  never sacrificing an artistic vision for the sake of mainstream appeal, she successfully crafted what will be revered as one of the defining popular albums of post-Covid, 2022 living. As we all emerge from our houses after the 2 year onslaught of quarantine, constant internet-induced social unrest, political failure after political failure, what we need more than anything right now is to get up and shake our asses with each other.
