“It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries” Track Review

“It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries” Track Review

Matt’s Take: Okay, this is both a Christmas track and a Carly Rae Jepsen single. I could’ve told you I’d love this song before it came out. It is a great earworm, something Jepsen has become the master of considering she is the queen of modern pop music, and it is good at being a darkly poppy primer to the holiday season. The fact that the track is in fact about how no celebration of the holiday season is complete without emotions running high and relatives being embarrassing makes it oddly relatable, especially to the millennial generation and Gen-Z crowds. I for one will be placing this track in my holiday playlist, and I hope you all like it similarly!

Hannah’s Take: Queen Carly Rae Jepsen has blessed us with a Christmas song! Totally unexpected, but that’s just the nature of 2020. Normally, I’m not a fan of pop stars releasing their own original Christmas tunes, but Jepsen’s is nice and cute. And she’s not wrong, every holiday involves tears of some sort. I really liked how she mentioned our age bracket’s favorite holiday activity, bringing up political topics during family dinner. Overall, it’s really catchy, short, and sweet. This Christmas is sure to be different than anything we’ve experienced before, and I’m glad we all have a new Carly Rae Jepsen tune to get us through the holidays!
